Weave wearing, bourbon loving, country girl Exposed!

Today meet Whitney!!! She blogs over at Just A Country Girl
She is seriously just the cutest thing ever!!! She has two precious dogs that her and her hubs treat better than some people do their children lol! And I vote them as the cutest couple that I know in the blog world. She also openly wears weave, and any wearer of weave is a friend of mine!
 ................................................................................

 Hey Y'all!
My name is Whitney and I blog over at Just A Country Girl
I love all things Kentucky - especially horses, UK basketball and bourbon!
You can most likely find me sippin on a drink, rocking my weave and wearing cowboy boots any chance I get.
I recently got married last November to the love of my life - in a barn. It was the country-rustic wedding I had always dreamed about!

If you need to know one thing about me and my hubby - it's that we are animal cray-cray. Our fur children, Bailey and Uggie Sue, actually walked down the aisle at our wedding wearing a burlap bowtie and tutu.
When the adorable Jess asked me to write for her Exposed series, I was super excited!
I bet y'all are expecting me to tell you my deepest, darkest secrets......truth is, i don't think I have any. Come to Ky and sip bourbon with me and then we can really chat :-)
I decided I would expose ten things you may or may not know about me. I hope you enjoy!
1.  I was raised up in the backwoods of Eastern Kentucky...like the sticks y'all! I walked barefoot next door to my Granny's when we ran out of buttermilk, rode 4wheelers more than cars, caught lighting bugs in mason jars, and ate tomatoes off the vine with a salt shaker in my parent's garden. For real! My oh my, have I came a long way. Growing up in a small town taught me everything I needed to know about being a country gal.

2. I LOVE love LOVE country music. I feel like it oozes the music to my soul. You won't find me listening to much of anything else, unless I am out on the town with my girls shaking my groove thang. And I heart K-Love too.

3.  90 % of the time I rock a weave or hair extensions. Tis true. I wasn't blessed with gorgeous locks of long flowing hair that you see on Pantene commercials. I got handed baby fine 3 year old hair. It just ain't fair! I gotta fake it till I make it.

4. My husband I became vegetarians, actually pescetarians, last August. Not because of healthy reasons, simply because of our love and passion for animals. Growing up on
meat and taters, it's been quite the adjustment, but we are still going strong. But damn, I miss fried chicken!

5. I don't leave the house without having my zigzag teasing comb, small can of hair spray, Nars blush, a Mac studiofix powder compact, bobby pins (in case the weave slips) and lip gloss in my purse. My husband always complains that I don't have the right essentials for him - chapstick, chewing gum, tissue and hand sanitizer. I told him to buy me a bigger purse :-) The LV speedy 35 will do just fine. Ahem, ahem.

6. My DVR is full of reality television - a lil Real Housewives anyone? Beverly Hills and OC are my faves. I also can't stop watching HBO's Game of Thrones - semi obsessed with it. The Good Wife, Bachelor/Bachelorette series, and Sons of Anarchy all tie for third place.

7. I tend to eat as much as my husband does. Thank the lord above he blessed me with 5'9" of height. Otherwise, I might be screwed. Sissy here likes to eat.

8. Family is my WORLD! I am so blessed in that department. We all talk daily and usually have a group text going at all times. I am pretty sure we could make our own reality show with the things that come out of our mouths. We may be a lil dysfunctional at times (ummm what family isn't it??), but we got plenty of the good stuff to go around....LOVE!

(My mom, dad, hubs, baby bro, baby bros' gf, moi and my 89 year old granny at our rehearsal dinner)

9. I am terrified of frogs - don't ask me why, but i am scared to death of those nasty lil boogers. they gross me out. I scream in terror when they find their way into our yard. Hubs says I am dramatic about the whole sitchy, I like to think I am just scared to death.....of a frog people!

10. Hubs has a Harley and when the weather is right, you can catch me on the back of it.

Usually not in my rehearsal dinner dress with wedding cans tied to the back :-)

Hope to see y'all soon over on my side of town ! Thanks Jess for having me - You know I think you are an absolute doll!!

Sriracha Garlic Shrimp with T.O.T

Linking up with Ashley and Jess again for

Due to the weather slowwwwly getting warmer, I've been playing outside on the grill a little bit more.
Last weekend I made Sriracha Garlic Grilled Shrimp and oh my G, DELISH and the heat from this dish is just the right amount.

Ingredients

1/3 cup of Sriracha (or as some of you say "cock sauce")
1/3 cup of Olive Oil
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
3 cloves of garlic, crushed
1 handful of cilantro, roughly chopped, plus more for garnish
1 tsp of sugar
salt
ground black pepper
2 lbs of large shrimp (16-20 count), peeled and deveined.

Mix together the Sriracha, olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, cilantro and sugar.
Season aggressively with S&P
Put the sauce in a 1 gallon bag and add the shrimp.
Marinate for at least 2-4 hours

Next, skewer up these bad boys and grill at medium heat until pink! 2-3 minute per side.

Garnish with the rest of cilantro and serve!!!
I think that these would be good with a little lime squeezed over them at the end too, just to cool them off a little bit if the Sriracha is too spicy for you!

And for the girls that made the tomato, pesto, mozzarella ring...I'm glad that you enjoyed it!

One fattening weekend! Recap!

This past weekend we had one of our best friends weddings to go to! They are truly two of the greatest people that we know, even though every time that they bring their dog over he has accidents on our floor. #2's
  Photo dump....(ha ha)

The wedding was in Newport....here
source
I know drool right?!!!! The downer was the weather. Because mother nature is still drunk off her rocker, it was so foggy that you couldn't see the ocean through any of the windows AND it was raining. But I hear rain on your wedding day that means good luck. I think it means shitty hair, a drunk bride and one muddy expensive white dress. She was none of this and handled everything perfectly.
(to be clear, it did not rain on my wedding day, so don't think that I'm speaking from experience, but if it had....WOOFTA)

1 Our hotel bed was super soft, if you can't tell it pretty much      swallowed me (please disregard my small cleve shot)
2 The hubs and I pre-wedding. Yes we match and we like to match. My dress is from Kiki La' Rue
3 Me and the bride. This was her second dress of the night, I swear the first one must have weighed 80 lbs
Saturday was a food day. Fresh Salsa
5 The BEST strawberry Daiquiris EVER
6 Grilled sriracha lime shrimp (recipe tomorrow)
7 My Massachusetts The Home T-shirt  came in
8 So excited that these little towel clips came in just in time for vacation. And if you follow me on instragram, you know that these are whales and "parits"
9 Sunday afternoon Firefly vodka with Trop 50 Lemonade

I don't know if I'm becoming a camera snob or what. But I am seriously hating the quality of my iPhone pics compared to my Rebel T3I. It's such a big difference and a shitty one at that! Any one else feeling the same way?
It's like I want to throw this 10 lb camera over my shoulder wherever I go and leave the iphone in my purse.

I hope you all had a great weekend! Linking up with Sami and Leeann

Exposing another great blogger today! Meet Jen and Come and Link up your Guest blogger.

Today I'm exposing one of the sweetest bloggers that I know!
If you don't know her your missing out. If  you follow me on twitter, then you know last week she went MIA for a few days and I was ready to put out an amber alert and post missing pictures of her on wine bottles. Her name is Jen. Jen Herron to be exact. But for some reason I call her Jen O'herron. Maybe it's because her husband is a  ginger and so is my hubs, and he's Irish.  She blogs over at That's What She Read  She isn't only a great blogger but has become a bbff, from phone calls where she makes fun of my Boston accent to random text pictures, cards in the mail, and more recently a vlate!
So here she is.............

oh, Jess. Sweet, BBFF Jess.

I had many great plans for this here guest post...and then guess what happened?

Yes, that's me in the left corner, vogue-ing.
I have no idea what I was doing that for but at the time, I was super excited that I was finally getting my
Vlate cherry popped by my two BBFFs.

Can't you just feel the excitement when you look at that pic?

But really, I had this whole post planned. I was going to tell you guys the story about the time when I called a radio station and got the MOST EMBARRASSED ever.
Long story short, I called my favorite radio station after they said they wanted to hear from listeners about their wedding days.
If you read this post over at From California to Kansas back in the day, you'd know that my wedding day was chalk full of disasters. The flowers came in the wrong color, my dad didn't show up for the father daughter dance, my hubs had an emergency surgery 4 days before, the DJ was a drunk who fell down some stairs and had to bow out and the ring bearer fell in a pond. Yes, it was THAT kind of a wedding.

So about 2 years ago, I was on my way to work and the radio station I listened to religiously was asking listeners to call in and tell them if their wedding day was worth the hustle and bustle...blah blah blah and I was like "hey I should call in!"
So I did.

Little did I know that I was about to get my embarrassment handed to me on a silver platter.
So this is about how it went:
Me: Hi! I have a funny story! (can you feel the excitement in my voice?)
Radio Guy: Welcome to the Big Party Morning Show! What's your wedding day story?
Me: Well, 4 days before our wedding, my husband's gallbladder exploded and the DJ was a drunk who fell down some stairs at his mom's house....(annnd I continue to ramble apparently because the next thing I know this happens:)
Me: And so then he tells me-
Radio Guy: Then he tells you that you are the worst story teller EVER?!
-Silence-
Me:  Um...okay...thanks, bye.

So that was my one foray into Radio Broadcast. And the last.
Did I delete that radio station from my favorites in my car? You betcha.
Have I EVER listened to that radio station again since then? NOT on your life.

There's just something about being embarrassed beyond comparison that makes me NEVER WANT TO HEAR YOUR VOICE ON RADIO EVER AGAIN.
Dude.

So that's the story I had planned to tell you in detail with this guest post.
But like  I said, I was too busy tonight drinking Whipped Icing Vodka with Cherry Coke Zero and this:

yes, friends, that there is what we call a 3 way double VLATE.
There were more hooplas and wahoos going on over video Wednesday night than an episode of Desperate Housewives of Whatever County.
We had SO.MUCH.FUN.

There's just something about your blog bffs and your ginger husbands that makes the world go round.

And that's how you do a guest post friends. :)

And just in case you ever find yourself video chatting with a Bostonite, Mass-hole, make sure you get into a "cherry" pronunciation match. Because really, there's just nothing better.

Over and out.
P.S. Come say hi: Jen @ That's What She Read

Sriracha BBQ Chicken Wings and Stuffed Cherry Peppers and Poppy Shoppe Giveaway Winner Reveal!

This weekend I made Sriracha BBQ wings and stuffed cherry peppers on the grill for dinner.....and I fell in love with food all over again. Due to this gluten free diet, I have been getting very experimental.

For the Chicken Wings.
1 lb of fresh (not frozen) wings
1 Bottle of Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce
garlic powder
and Sriracha

I didn't measure any of this out, so bare with me. I grabbed a ziploc baggy and tossed my wings in it. I added about half the bottle of BBQ sauce and probably about 1/2 a cup of Sriracha.
Add a good shake of garlic powder to the mix too.
Seal this bag, shake the shit out of it and put it in the fridge for at least 4 hours.

After 4 hours, pre heat your grill and spread them out on pammed foil. Let them cook on medium flipping once for about 20 minutes. DON'T throw away the bag that they were marinating it, use that for basting!
After 20 mins, remove the foil so that the wings char. We like all of our stuff well done, so the blacker the better.

You can drizzle some honey over these upon serving too!

Stuffed Cherry Peppers
You'll need
Cherry Peppers (think 3 per person, they are bite size)
Any kind of cheese (feta and Gorgonzola are good choice because they don't melt out)
Turkey sausage scrambles.

Carve the stems out of cherry peppers and use a melon baller to scrape out the seeds. They will look like this

You can stuff the peppers with either the sausage or the cheeses. I don't recommend both because of how tiny they are.

Pop these guys on the grill, facing down on foil. Let them cook for about 20 minutes on low-medium, check them frequently.

PAM YOUR FOIL. I failed in this department and that's why there is no after picture, but they were still yummy.

And the Winner for The Poppy Shoppe Camera Strap is...........
Mallory
Happy Tuesday!!!
